    Hi Darren,
It's a shame the writer of the piece on socialist genes didn't read beyond the title of Steven Pinker's book. If they had, they would know the answer to all those questions – and they might also be "startled" to find that, actually, twins brought up in different environments do have remarkably similar opinions, likes, dislikes, and so on. Still, don't let science get in the way of a good polemic!

    Hello Stuart,

I've yet to read beyond the title of the article, tbh. ;-)

I'm guessing that PJS wrote the piece. I trust that you will be writing a letter to the Socialist Standard echoing the above criticism?

    Go on. Do it.

I know, why do I always moan on your blog? I won't send a letter to the Standard because I disapprove of its practice of writing a hostile reply underneath it. But I'll blog on it. Perhaps PS can comment there if he likes.

I'll pass on the link to your post on to SPOPEN if and when you pen the post.

As I said, I've yet to read the post - though I was intrigued by the title of the piece - and I was merely reposting Piers and Robert's bulletin that advertises the articles they've posted recently on their page on MySpace.

I usually read Socialist Standard articles nowadays if and when I post them as blogs on the unofficial Socialist Standard page on MySpace. That way I can stretch my reading of the Socialist Standard out for the full month, rather than gulp it all down in one sitting. ;-)

    PS

    - I don't think PS reads my blog. Bastard.

PS doesn't know what he's missing! Let's never again read his column to get our own back...

    I think he does.

I seem to remember that he once accused me of not having a sense of humour.

Not having a crap sense of humour, but not having a sense of humour, FULL STOP.

Happy days in the SPGB. Best years of my life. ;-)

Ah yes, late nights around the Head Office table, planning world revolution and smoking crap pot till 4 in the morning. Happy days.

    I didn't smoke. I only inhaled.

Don't worry, the only thing in that smoke was carbon monoxide and tar.

Do you remember the row over SW's 'smoke', or was that before your time?

Laughing now just thinking about it. ;-)

"Ah yes, late nights around the Head Office table, planning world revolution and smoking crap pot till 4 in the morning. Happy days."

Yeah, and DF was always notable by his absence. I knew then that he wasn't a bona-fide revolutionary.

*Mental image of the spook operative reaching for his or her notebook of 'ultra-left initials' whilst trying to decipher this thread:
"Ah, 'DF'. They must be referring to Duncan Ferguson. I always thought he was in the CPGB (M-L)."*

Yes, I think I remember various rows about smoking. Funny thing is, I've changed sides on that issue too!

    Stuart,

    Forwarded the link to SPOPEN:

The Socialist Gene article in this month's Socialist Standard

As the tone of your post was rather sparky, I'm sure that any possible replies will be considered, polite and measured. ;-)
