I never pegged you as an Emo-Communist, Jools. It explains so much about World in Common. ;-)
Apparently, nine out of ten Aufheben readers prefer C86 . . . especially the Shop Assistants.
Ah, C86 . . . so much to answer for. I once had a mad vision to remix some of the C86 stuff I have on vinyl with hardcore drum 'n' bass. Unfortunately this never came to fruition as my brother has all the musical talent, the bastard.
The Shoppies - now there was a band. I may go into musical hibernation until C86's 30th anniversary in 2016. See you then. In the meantime I'll let the emo accusation go . . .
By the way my brother pointed me in the direction of an article by Nicky Wire in yesterday's Guardian on C86 and its influence on the Manics. Its a great piece and contains the immortal line (in reference to the peerless McCarthy) "From one failed commie to another. Thanks for the Royalties." Which is the best title for a potential blog I have ever seen.
Hello Jools,
Just checked out the Nicky Wire article. Great stuff.
I totally agree with his comments about McCarthy. They're a group that - on paper - I really wanted to love, but then I bought the album and listened to the music . . . sounded like Pop Group without the tunes ;-) (I'm joking but I much prefer Stereolab).
I was always more of a Mighty Lemon Drops fan.
