Lost in Music

Whilst I'm waiting for the second episode of the third series of the brilliant The Last Detective - everything that the television adaptation of Rebus isn't and more - to download, I thought I would throw this iTunes meme your way. I'm not going to tag anyone to do it, but if you do end up doing the meme on your blog, let me know so I can check it out. Cheers.

Some good shit there, Dazza, but Level 42? Level fucking 42? I can just picture that tosser now slapping his fucking bass.
Darren, they were so shit - I cannot take you seriously ever again.
    Tee hee hee hee hee.

    Sorry Reidski,

I have a soft spot for Level 42. 'Something About You' and 'It's Over' are great tracks.

Btw, realised that survey/meme was far too long and no other bugger will do it. Therefore, no one else has the chutzpah to reveal their musical vulnerabilities. ;-)

Have I ever mentioned having Marillion's Script for a Jester's Tear in my record collection at one point. I was at a very low ebb in my musical life at the time.

My sister owned a copy of Marillion's Script for a Jester's Tear way back in the mists of time that was the 1980s (She also fancied Fish... she never had taste)
Well, Darren, great eclectic tunes. New Moon on Monday by Duran Duran, my fave on Seven and the Ragged Tiger. Though I think Waiting for the Great Leap Forward by Billy Bragg is better than Sex-u-ality. O

h and the fantastic Sex Dwarf by Soft Cell from Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret though I would also include My Secret Life (the new theme tune for Shagger Sheridan I don't suppose!)

Oh and XTC... early 1980s and secondary school (god, I hated school)and thought they were great.

    Louise,

I have to come clean and admit that it is Kara that loves 'New Moon on Monday', not me. (She's also the massive Sonic Youth and Beck fan). I was always more of a 'Save A Prayer' kind of Duranie.

    I think Marillion are due a re-evaluation.

    Darren, no they are not!
Louisefeminista - I also fancied Fish, but only if it was battered and had mounds of chips with loads of salt and vinegar with it!!
Now let's get back to Level 42 ...

    Reidski,

I do the bad gags in this comment box. ;-)

As my music cred has now gone for a burton with my admittance that I like some Level 42 tracks, I may as well go the whole nine yards by admitting now that I like early Spandau Ballet and early Simple Minds.

    There . . . I've said it.

Darren, Your Meme was far too long, nonetheless, using every moment I can to avoid some plumbing tasks, I've had a go at it. I'm less vulnerable though cos I haven't included my pre sony walkman mp3s cos I can't sort them the same way.

P.S. Early Simple Minds weren't all that bad. But Level 42 FFS? I laways wanted to slap that guy with a plank!

    Jim,

you're right that the meme was much too long but it was one of those situations where you reach a certain point in the meme where you realise that this is taking up far too much time, but you feel compelled to continue as to abandon it at this late stage would by self-defeating.

Really amazed at the levek of hostility displayed against Level 42 from the people of Irvine. I could understand if we were talking about Shakatak, but Level 42?

I guess the jazz-fusion scene never reached Ayrshire.

Awh this is a GREAT meme and screw the length (hmm, that sounds obscene...)

    Nowt wrong with Spandau Ballet.

Chant Number One - a funk classic.

Duran Duran tho'? You need your heed examined. Posh gits.

    Louisefeminista said...

Oi comrade, liking Duran Duran in your yoof doesn't constitute being a posh git! So there....

Yes, Chant No. 1 is still good to listen (and I was only listening to it yesterday on Napster).

Early Simple Minds were a good and esp. like Sparkle in the Rain (whether that is early is another thing).

And I also shamefully admit to liking some Level 42 (don't worry Darren you aint on ya own...)

Oh and what about Heaven 17... Truly classic esp. Temptation.

I have also been listening to Icicle Works, Bauhaus, Visage, Flock of Seagulls and Pale Fountains.

Oh Reidski, I agree re: Fish (Marillion variety not the gill variety) and said my sister had no taste!

    Imposs1904 said...

    Will,

early, middle and late Duran Duran - apart from a few damp patches - were class. And I'm not just saying that 'cos 'Save A Prayer' was the first single I ever bought. (Well, maybe). And anyone I always thought they were Brummie scruffs - ask Scribbles.

    Louise,

though I like Sparkle In The Rain, I do think it was the point of no return for Jim Kerr and his Bono fixation. Check out the early, early stuff when his fixation was on Bowie. Much better person to musically stalk, I find.

Totally agree that Heaven 17 were especially brilliant. I sometimes wonder if part of the reason that they are not so well regarded now is because so much more was expected of them. By not properly going stratospheric, people dismiss Penthouse Pavement & The Luxury Gap, when they should be celebrated.

'Fraid to say that apart from the obvious, Ian McNabb and the Icicle Works were a bit overrated. Motormouth Pete Wylie of the Mighty Wah was the lost scouse musical treasure of that particular era.

    Darren: Totally agree!
