World Cup Sayings #3 & #4

After Tevez scored the fifth Argentinian goal against Serbia & Montenegro:

"Wow, he's so strong . . . like a little fire hydrant." - The ESPN2 Commentator, on watching the replay of the goal.
"Like a knife through butter . . . no, sorry, I mean a hot knife through butter." - Some Scottish bloke in a living room in Brooklyn watching the same replay.

hah just used exactly the same phrase in my blog (the knife one). That goal was actually quite moving.

Alright Dazza! Long time no speak! So when did you move to NY? Was it part of the rehabilitation process on leaving the AWL? ;)

You've got me at a disadvantage VP, 'cos you know who I am but I refuse to hazard a guess at who you might be. (Feel free to email offline if you're a bit blogger shy.)

I've been in New York since July of last year, and I'm still keeping up with my abstract propagandism when I can.

I hope Dave B is well. I always liked Dave, as he was one of the nicest blokes I ever met in politics, and if you see him pass on my best regards.

Wait up, you're profile says you like the Pogues. Shane McGowan's pub in Islington doesn't ring any bells does it? And I can't believe there is anyone out there still claims to like Carter USM. The AWL really has gone downhill. ;-)

It's Alan from SOAS mate - I joined you on the recovering AWL member trail many years ago ;)

Yeah, Dave's still about; spookily he doesn't appear to have changed (at all) since 1996, so I dunno if there's something supernatural that he hasn't been telling us...

So, was it a job that took you to NY?

Hello Alan,

I thought it might be you, but I wasn't prepared to stick my neck out on the matter. Email me offline and I will tell you all about why I'm in New York. Better still, just search the archives of the blog, and overheat my site meter in the process. ;-)

I see that you're doing a group blog with Jim D. Does that mean that you are still there and thereabouts in the AWL? I still look at Solidarity when it comes online, and there are still a few familar names penning articles -as well Sean's 6 or 7 nome de plumes - but there appears to be others that are mia

What happened to Jim N? Is he still about? Another nice bloke in his eccentric fashion.

Hope you're well.

- Darren

Is that the *real* Jim D? An article on jazz suggests it might be. I know who you are, VP, (are you still amused by the unfortunately-named "Black and Proud Society"?) but I think Darren may well have been "after my time", so to speak. But who am I?
