The Bastard Fairies does it crass-style

Nearly missed this, even though John at Counago and Spaves had posted a link to it nearly a week ago. Very funny spoof video-cam footage of a wee eight year old girl laying into Bill O'Reilly and the religious right. Turns out that it is all part of an elaborate scam to publicise a band called the Bastard Fairies.

The YouTube clip below shows that Bill O'Reilly has responded to it in the only way he can, by throwing out accusations of indoctrination and child abuse.

How can "grown-ups" still believe children are vunerable and unaware of the world around them. You really have to have your head where the sun doesn't shine to think that children becuase of their age don't understand or even know what's plaguing society today. Think again, many times if you just take the time to talk to children they will be very intuitive. They have minds of their own and should be free to make them up as they see fit. We have the web and they use it as a tool to learn. What are the groups, that this girl talks about, afraid of? That she's speaking for a majority that they wish would rather not be heard. Get over yourselves, you messed up and thought you could keep feeing us the garbage to scare us into falling in line with YOUR beliefs and it just doesn;t work anymore. Find somethign else to invest time and money in. Because the church doesn't need Mercedes Benzs, BMWs, 5 bedroom houses and trips around the world. If having God in your heart is the greatest gift, why does it cost so much?

I am not anti-religion, as it has done good as well as bad, and I'm even a Christian. But being a Christian I can tell you that they use kids all the time to spout their religious beliefs and most people think it is cute. It does seem a little exploitive to use a kid in this kind of way (They were obviously reading from a script.), but suburban parents do this all the time and I guess it's no more exploitive than using child actors. (Which I still think is exploitive, at least most of the time.) I guess it maybe makes it a little better that it was a publicity gag for a band. That is really the best way to get free publicity. Piss off conservatives, particularly religious ones. All that said, some good points were made, especially in response to O'Reilly's crazier comments about children, violence, and religion.

My daughter was a convinced atheist and vegetarian at 8 years old without prompting from either her mother or I (and remains convinced at 15).

What is false about the first vid. is that it's not the kind of arguments that children use.

Of course, O'Reilly uses the sort of arguments that children use, at their worst.

Did you notice how Bill O'Reilly responds to it as if it didn't go after him in particular?

she's acting. there are child actors out there, her age or younger, who have been subject to much worse things. once again the religious right needs to fuck off.

All those AWFUL AWFUL things they force her to say such as "ASS."

Oh, boy! No kid has ever said such a thing!

They make their point. The kid is clearly in there to make the promotion more radical and controversial to get mopes like us to whine and moan our sides about it.

Back to the aforementioned, "promotion" aspect... You see, this was nothing more than a promotional tool for an awful generic indie-rock band. Let them be.

- Love,

A liberal piece of crap.

they are corect in saying that this is child abuse, if anything the parents should have checked the vid before it being put on the net. she sould get into alot of trubble for some of the things she said.

I cant belive how reactionary people are being to this. It’s a staged piece of art that promotes a band that is perfectly entitled to express views of a political nature.

The child is not being abused, she looks like she is enjoying herself and she comes across as very smart child. I think her parents should be commended for bringing up a beautiful and bright child.

It’s a pathetic FOX reaction, Mmmm lets see do we vilify the Christians through the exploitative imagery of the baby Jesus? No we don’t, and I know many people that find that image repugnant. These are obviously words and views held by the child’s parents which is perfectly acceptable, the many cuts and edits suggest that the child id being coached, nothing wrong with that, it’s a child acting. The child is undoubtedly going to challenge and question the content of this as she gets older and form her own views, because she is obviously intelligent and that’s part of growing up. So what do we do? Do we band every child from being filmed or used to promote any sort of product or viewpoint?

We have many examples of children being "exploited" in our society today and this is certainly not one of them. These self righteous Christians who have obvioulsy been conditioned from early childhood to perpetaute sensationalist propoganda are only trying to distract peoples attention away from the real issues of today and we are talking issues that they are implicityly involved in. Lets look at the hundreds of thousands of children in sweatshops owned by corporate power brookers that support both republican and democratic parties.
This type of child abuse is where our efforts should be concentrated and not some indie bands promo video. The condition of Iraq may not be termed Genocide within western history books in the forseeable future but it is not out of context
where over 500,000 people have died as a direct result or as a by product of the UK/USA invasion…..and many of them were children. Fox, their supporters and allies are trying to cultivate a new Nanny State Of AMERICA, the fundamental Christian right are getting closer to creating a neo totalitarian state through fueling that culture of fear, freedom of speech is being eroded and what made America great is being lost if it is not already. America it is time to grow up!! the rest of the world views you as the spoilt brat of the new Millenium, a brat that lies, cheats and manipulates to get what it wants. A brat that needs a good hiding, Oh I forgot we don’t punish brats anymore.
