I guess that if you are doing a cities theme, and you want to feature God's Own City I'd have to suggest Charlie Bubbles, even if it does feature the lair of the Beast out Trafford way.

Or maybe some of George "Turned out nice again" Formby's, which were filmed in Rusholme, I believe. (When they were on in Bolton, so my father told me, George used to make impromptu PAs, walking onto the stage and asking "Did you like me film, then?" Don't know if he had his little ukelele in his hand at the time.)

Anything other than 24 Hour Party People. Anything. Even a film about Birmingham. Is there one?

Mrs Mikeovswinton would doubtless suggest that you then get onto to her home city of Salford - owzabout A Taste of Honey. Hazel Blears MP had a small part in it as a child - true. Some great scenes of the Manchester Ship canal at Eccles.

A cities theme? I know why you might think that with some of my recent choices but I'm afraid I'm not that structured in my viewing.

I just stumble onto films, which means sometimes there is a mad scramble to select something before the New Year's resolution turns into a pumpkin.

'Fraid I can't go for Taste of Honey because I've already seen it. I remember stumbling across it one late night on BBC 2 when I was a kid, not knowing what it was but being enraptured by it within minutes. This was years before I knew that Morrissey cribbed most of his lyrics from the first Smiths album from the work of Shelagh Delaney.

I'm sure I've seen Charlie Bubbles years ago. Another work from the pen of Delaney but I'd be lying if I said I remembered much of it.

24 Hour Party People? Cracking film. I don't know why you're so sniffy about it.
