One Year On

No drawn out overview, no cutting of the cake and no 'My Ten Favourite Quips': Just an acknowledgement that this blog is one year old today.
In its first year, this blogging business never did fulfill its original mission statement of getting me to sharpen up words-wise, and propel me to actually getting my arse into gear to write something for the Socialist Standard - in fact the mention of politics has been conspicuous by its absence at times - but it has allowed me to indulge in, and share with you all, my excellent taste in good music, good films, good literature and good hyperbole.
It was also a contributory factor in my meeting a friend for life - yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm referring to you Kara - and for that alone, I'm glad I started this blog. Even if I am a little late with the promised blog review of that Le Tigre concert - apologies.
Here's to the next twelve months with more of the same and maybe, just maybe, the occasional mention of politics. I know I left my political mojo somewhere around here.

Politics, schmolitics, man. There is actually LESS to life than the big picture. And, sometimes, less can mean more.

You have given me enjoyment, enlightenment and intellectual intercourse, so, happy anniversary Darren.

Anyway, getting back to that first paragraph above, I think of politics as how people relate to their neighbours and their communities and the folk in the pub and such like rather than who they vote for and which "political" party they are in. Politics is also about writing about music, literature and other things on a blog - you have done these things, don't feel guilty about them.

Hello Reidski,

Cheers for the kind words. Don't mind me - I was just being my usual self-effacing self ;-)
I can't help but comment on the pop culture, but I think I may add in some of the "big picture" from time to time when I can on the blog in my second year. I do fully understand and agree with your point though.

Aye, and speaking of relating politics in pubs, I will definitely be up for that drink next time I'm back in London. ;-)

Happy birthday Darren! It's probably best that you don't mention your politics as they're even worse than your taste in music ;-)

Congratulations Darren and thanks very much for all the entertainment and enlightenment you've provided.

Reidski has the politics thing right, too. You can't be a socialist politically and at the same time an asshole to those around you. It's a whole package that reaches down to the everyday.

Cheers again.

1st Birthday on April 17th? Eddie Cochran's anniversary (died 45 years ago).
