"The Game of Their Lives" is already out here and getting shit reviews, but now that I know Gavin is in it, I may have to see it anyway.
I can't believe you haven't blogged about the Celtic victory.
"The match against the British was the Game of their lives"? Mmm. Did Mel Gibson write this one?
Ah, Americans, you can't expect them to get such piffling details correct (sigh).
BTW on the subject of football - though the prospect of Celtic getting close to the Scottish Premier League title after an erratic season does please me (blame my residual Forest fan pleasure in Martin O'Neill) - I am much more excited by the thought that St. Mirren could clinch that all-important second position in the Scottish First Division. No reason of course...
This thing you have for all things Paisley, Lisa, I'm starting to get concerned. ;-)
I'm afraid I've always had a thing for Notts County myself. Not sure if it is because of Shane Meadows; Tommy Johnson or old Jimmy Sirrell himself. (Maybe even Charlie Resnick was a County fan as well? It would explain the melancholy.)
And I don't want to get ahead of myself but if anyone can get Forest out of Division One next season, it will be Gary Megson. A crowd of twenty five thousand last Saturday when they are languishing in the bottom four in the division.
How's that for fan loyalty . . . or does it just indicate a lack of anything else to do on a Saturday afternoon in Nottingham?
Shucks, I'm busted! (re: all things Paisley)...
Still, not exactly requiring rocket science deduction is it (just a month to go till I get to London to see Death of a Salesman!)
Ahem...
Anyway, on the subject of Forest and County, I recall getting caught in a terrible club-orientated scrap at 6th form between the Notts County and Forest crowds. You have to remember, I was at 6th form when Notts County were in the top flight with Forest, so whichever side you were on there were scraps to be had.
I feel so desperately sad for Forest, not least because Megson has worked his butt off only to have about half the team just biding their time to get off should the team drop (all too likely, but we hope against hope). The shambles of last week when a large number of the players went on the razz only served to highlight the farcical situation Megson finds himself in: we need to be shot of these waste-of-space players. He can give the motivation but he needs the players to contribute. ultimately, I would hate us to slip into being a further 'sleeping giant' of the lower divisions - commanding the numbers of supporters but just not able to cut it at the higher level performance-wise. I truly hope Megson stays whatever happens because that team has got to be built up out of players who give a damn, and he's one of the few who seems willing and able to get that happening.
Well, it happened to the Villa in the 70s, but we fought our way back to be a sleeping giant in the Premiership.
