After your "Teams that meet in Caffs" comp, I'm rather surprised that there's nothing from the Famous Dixons on here. Specially as you pick one from them wannabes, the Style Council. (Or indeed, nothing from the Bloxys now that "Apples and Oranges" is available via Amazon for your delectation.)MInd you , Sevie Wonder's always good - tho' Jackie Wilson's "Light my fire" has to be the best version. TBH, I had to google both as I wasn't sure what you were referring to. Now, I understand.
There was no Dexys on the random 25 as all our Dexys stuff is elsewhere and unless it pops up on my ipod, I've not listened to much of their stuff recently.
Do you really think that the Style Council were Dexys wannabes? It's not a bad wannabe to be, to be honest.

I have mixed feelings about that particular song. I'll forever associate it with working nightshift in a warehouse back in the early 90s. The local radio station seemed to play the Doors album version of the track every night at 4:15 in the morning for some reason.
Something about Ray Manzarek's extended organ wibblings makes me think of those cold sleepless bastard nights. (It was a 'fridgerated warehouse.)
Now that I think about it, maybe that's the time when the DJ took a shit every night and he needed the full seven minutes. I guess I'll never know . . . unless he google searches and gets back to me.

Face it, Jackie Wilson could have sung the front page of tonight's Manchester Evening News, and with Carl Davis's production and those moonlighting Funk Bros, it would probably be the best thing you'd hear all week. Or month. Well you get the point. KTF

Well just at the moment with City's run of draws it was never going to be "Higher and Higher".
BTW; I do live in Manchester and my ref to the paper was simply driven by the fact that I was using it as a coaster for my tea. No one in Manchester would ever be daft enough to try to read the thing. (Apart from the footy and Rugby League stuff. But don't get me started about their RL coverage.)
